Eric Vanderboom (Federal On-Scene Coordinator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 10 Office) submits a “Notice of Federal Interest (NFI) in an Oil Pollution Discharge” to HF Sinclair Midstream (HFSM) relating to this morning’s oil spill in Burley, Idaho. Mr. Vanderboom explains this order signifies the EPA is taking a lead federal role in “overseeing” the spill response. However, he makes it clear this is simply a formality…the EPA is not “federalizing” the response. This is a Drill!
